Oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits and more… Citrus fruits encompass a wide range of important food crops known all over the world. While the plants are native to the warmer regions of Asia and Australia, they are also grown in North and South America, Europe, and South Africa. The fruits grow on small trees or shrubs that thrive in warm, sunny, and humid climates. Healthy and well-drained soil is an important growth factor as well as sufficient availability of water. Thus, citrus plants are very suitable participants for agroforestry systems where they are protected from droughts and flooding.
