The Waterboxx
Growing Trees Without Rain
Young tree seedlings are most vulnerable in their first months before roots are deep enough to reach groundwater, they depend entirely on surface moisture. In a climate with irregular rainfall and long Harmattan droughts, many seedlings do not survive long enough to establish. The Waterboxx is Groasis’s solution.

How the Waterboxx Works
The Waterboxx is a passive water storage and delivery device that collects water from rainfall and condensation and delivers it directly to the roots of young trees. It keeps seedlings alive and growing through dry periods without irrigation or ongoing intervention.
Benefits on This Farm
The Waterboxx increases seedling survival rates to 70-90%, significantly higher than conventional planting on degraded land without irrigation. Fewer seedlings lost means lower replanting costs and faster canopy development. It also enables year-round planting, removing dependency on the rainy season and allowing the project to maintain momentum regardless of seasonal timing.
Water Mapping and Next Steps
In 2026, Groasis and MetaMeta are mapping terrain and water flows across the project area, identifying priority zones where water harvesting technology will have the greatest impact.
