SPAAK

Technology That Works in the Field

SPAAK connects social entrepreneurs and sustainability experts to address environmental challenges through digitalization and circular economy solutions. In Ghana and the Côte D’Ivoire, they have been working to make technology actually useful for farmers as a core part of how farms are managed and how knowledge moves through communities.

Their Role in the Farm of the Future

SPAAK leads the digitalization infrastructure of the project. That means preparing and installing 20 laptops and 10 tablets for the Learning Centre in Meduma, building the digital content library that farmers and youth will learn from, and exploring the installation of a small cell tower to give a rural farming community real time access to cloud based content. These are not small logistical tasks, as connectivity in Nsokote is limited, and making digital tools actually work here requires problem solving that goes well beyond buying equipment.

Bridging the Gap

Early baseline assessments show strong enthusiasm for digital tools among community members but very limited prior exposure to them. SPAAK’s job is to bridge that gap: designing content and infrastructure that meets farmers where they are, not where it would be convenient for them to be. Their work is also circular: SPAAK explores how farming by products can be upcycled, integrating biochar and other circular economy solutions into the farm’s economic model.
