The Rock Group
Turning Fruit Waste into Farm Income
TheRockGroup brings market development and training expertise to the Farm of the Future. Their focus is a powerful idea: the fruit farms around Meduma already produce enormous amounts of waste (overripe fruit, rejected produce, residues from processing). Most of it goes nowhere. TheRockGroup is exploring whether that waste can become a product.
Their Role in the Farm of the Future
Working alongside Roze Bunker for flavour development and SPAAK for technical analysis, TheRockGroup leads the training and market side of a decentralized syrup production pilot. The concept is to develop new syrup recipes from local fruit waste (mango, pineapple, cassava and others) and train farmers to produce those syrups themselves, at small scale, on their own land, using accessible equipment.
Before any production begins, TheRockGroup is assessing the technical viability, local sugar and waste stream availability, and regional market potential in Ghana. The goal is a realistic, honest business model that only moves forward if the numbers and the social impact actually work.
Why It Matters
For farmers who already grow fruit alongside cocoa, this creates a potential new income stream from something that currently has no value. It reduces waste, generates local employment, particularly for women, and adds another layer to the diversified farm economy the project is building.
