Fashion

The fashion and apparel industry is committed to the business of producing and selling of high-quality (fashion) and ordinary (apparel) clothes. Today, it has a market value of 406 billion dollars and is highly globalized. A value chain often trespasses numerous countries. Unfortunately, the fashion industry is also known for its large environmental footprint: Its water usage and waste and GHG emissions are tremendous. Further, it is notoriously infamous for the precarious working conditions in its ‘sweatshops’ – the manufacturies – and the exposure of farmworkers to harmful pesticides on the cotton fields.

Regenerative Agroforestry poses a solution to some of these issues in two major ways: 1) It can improve the cultivation practices of currently used fibers, such as cotton, and 2) increase the production of various natural fibers such as flax or jute. It avoids the use of harmful pesticides, saves water and turns fiber production into a regenerative practice.
