Tea
Climate zone: Tropical – Dry – Temperate – Continental – Polar
The world’s most popular beverage after water, tea is mainly produced in Asia and some African countries. It grows best in tropical and sub-tropical countries at high altitudes with sufficient rainfalls.
Tea works well in agroforestry systems as it needs shade and windbreaks. It can be integrated with various trees, such as rubber and timber species making for an economically interesting combination. Unfortunately, tea farming is notoriously linked to underpaid farmers which is why agroforestry can provide economic incentives through income diversification.
